Founding Story
Telosnex was founded in 2024 by James O'Leary. The company is dedicated to creating tools that help people work with AI in a way that is safe, ethical, and empowering.
Before Telosnex, James was a design engineer at Google for seven years.
Work that James led at Google included:
- Google's next-generation Assistant UI embedded in Android
- Replacing Google Assistant's speech recognition codec with Opus by adding it to Google Cloud and deploying it on Android and Google's smart home devices, improving speech recognition quality while significantly decreasing latency.
- Developed a new design system, and a color space to enable it, from learnings on the next-generation Assistant. Fortuitously, a year later Google was looking to reimagine design, and James' work became Google's Material You, a design system that adapts to the user's preferences and launched on Android in 2021. [Interview] [Google Blog: The Science of Color & Design] [Video: Making Material You]
James' then worked across multiple Google's divisions to integrate Material You. His last major project was design for integrating AI into Google Search via the Search Generative Experience in late 2022/early 2023.
He had a couple years of hobbyist experience with early generative AI. Google's approach to integrating it after ChatGPT's launch was disheartening. Adding a thin layer on top of existing products, and not leveraging its full power, seemed like a missed opportunity that would lead to a subpar user experience, and eventually, a loss of trust - the May 2024 AI search controversy being a prime example.
He left Google in October 2023 to build a tool that was trustworthy, treated users with respect, and would leverage AI to its full potential: Telosnex.
